obstetrical emergencies

Skilled and knowledgeable practitioners are a key factor in ending preventable maternal and infant mortality. Some emergencies are predictable, and some come without warning signs. This course is designed to review risk factors, preventive measures, emergency skills, and secondary emergencies related to Postpartum Hemorrhage, Shoulder Dystocia, and Cord Prolapse.

evidence-based RESEARCH literacy

The courses we offer will guide you in accessing and ingesting the latest research, policies, and guidelines. The courses also develop your research interpretation skills, ensuring you can gauge research context and quality yourself.

fetal heart monitoring course

Properly monitoring the fetal heart and correctly interpreting the findings are key factors in preventing neonatal and newborn death, as well as reducing unnecessary interventions. This program is designed to refine those skills and deepen knowledge related to fetal heart monitoring.

Neonatal RESUSCITATION, Newborn exam & care

Care during the first hours of life is crucial for the survival of newborns and again during the first week of life, as we know that the peak of neonatal mortality occurs during this time. This course is designed to equip a medical practitioner with the skills and knowledge necessary to care for a newborn.

addressing the root causes OF LIBERAL EPISIOTOMY

The persistence of liberal (routine) episiotomy, despite global recommendations against it, is rooted in a lack of skills, knowledge and trust in a woman’s body. Our courses directly address those issues in our mission to end a harmful practice that leads to so many problems for women, including septicemia and death.

Doula trainings

In many low-resource and humanitarian contexts, maternity care systems are overburdened, understaffed, and unevenly resourced.

Doulas provide continuous, non-clinical support that strengthens—not replaces—health systems. Through presence, communication support, and culturally grounded care, doulas help women understand their options, navigate services, and engage with providers more effectively. This continuity supports earlier help-seeking, clearer communication, and more respectful interactions—key factors in preventing avoidable harm.

Training local doulas builds community-based capacity, supports respectful and trauma-informed care, and reinforces the implementation of evidence-based practices at the point of care. In contexts where material resources are limited, relational continuity and trust become powerful safety tools.

By integrating doula training into broader health system strengthening efforts, Acadia Foundation supports maternity care that is not only clinically sound but humane, equitable, and locally rooted.
